Reunion: the volcano prohibited access for more than two months should be accessible again for holidays

Friday 11 December 2009

The enclosure itself Piton de la Fournaise volcano on Reunion very regularly active, closed for over two months following the warning of 7 October. An absolute record in the history of the volcano.

This means that we can no longer climb the slopes of the volcano and the hiker must stop behind the portal Bellecombe where a sign indicates "imminent eruption.
On the other hand, since the massive eruption of April 2007 which led to the collapse of 300m from the main crater, the crater Dolomieu, it was possible to approach the edges of the craters of the volcano and to discover the new configuration of the summit of Piton de la Fournaise.
The Prefecture of La Reunion may, for the holiday season, simultaneously reopen access to the volcano and craters with access to all new developments announced since May 2008.
