Isabelle Autissier, the first woman to have completed a round the world sailing competition, is vice-chair of working group of the "Grenelle of the sea" on "The delicate encounter between land and sea." After a trip in the Indian Ocean, the sailor gives a first analysis of Mayotte and its marine environment in the newspaper "Le Monde" (Article published in the edition of 21.06.09). Extracts.
(...) "The people, strangely, have yet to be sensitized to the sea, to feel at home. Education for swimming, to diving and the marine environment is a priority, especially vis-à-vis 54% of the population is under 20 years. Sanitation issues are even more glaring than in its neighbor and is a prerequisite for managing the coast.
The mangrove and its rear area are essential and deserve a "house" that unite the research. Global warming also has the strategies to fight against erosion and flooding on the agenda. As in the previous case, fishing requires more monitoring and research calls on ... exist, simply! Marine renewable energy must be there, too, strongly developed, and all the shipping lanes will be considered, especially a coastal freight and passengers congesting the roads of the island.
