A new terminal in 2012 and an airport runway to 2 600m in 2015 to Mayotte

The French State Secretary for Transport Dominique Bussereau, visiting Mayotte 7 and October 8, 2009, stated maturities of two key issues for economic development and tourism of the island lagoon.

The new terminal (l 'now is regularly saturated) and the lengthening of the runway at 2 600m to allow larger aircraft to take off fully loaded and therefore a direct link Mayotte / metropolis without refueling.

 

  • The new terminal, which will accommodate 600 000 passengers per year and up 1.2 million after a few extra fittings: work, costing 30 million euros, will start in 2011 for opening in 2012 . Regarding the issue of airport concession, the call for applications to find a manager has generated 4 responses. The tender will be launched before the end of October.

  • Extending the runway to reach 2 600, with a total cost of 200 million euros (state appropriations and, if possible, European funds FEDER-European Fund for Regional Development): studies are underway including the environmental impact of construction on part of the reef flat (fill in the lagoon). After a declaration of public utility, the tender will be launched in 2012, for opening the new runway in 2015.

Regarding air service, Dominique Bussereau said: "Tourism is important vehicle for economic development requires an efficient air service, diversified and easy transport between the islands of the Indian Ocean. On this point, besides the airlines already on the market (Air Austral, Air Madagascar, Kenya Airways, Corsairfly, Air Seychelles, Comoros Aviation ...), the Secretary of State mentioned the possible arrival of airlines in the Middle East and "low-coast" Asian.
