Mayotte: Areas of Development and text of the consultation of 29 March

Tourism and aquaculture may be the two major axes of development of the island of Mayotte said Yves Jégo, Secretary of State for Overseas France, during his fourth trip to the island in the lagoon (8 and 9 January 2009).
Secretary of State has also revealed the exact wording of the question to be asked to Mahorais during the consultation on the departmentalization, text that had been validated by the State Council: "Do you approve of the transformation in Mayotte single community, called the department, governed by Article 73 of the Constitution and exercising the powers devolved to departments and regions overseas? "
In fact to date Mayotte is a departmental community and not a department. Voters registered on the electoral lists of common Mayotte on 31 December 2008 will decide on this issue on 29 March 2009.
