Mayotte: new terminal in 2011 pending the runway length to 2015

Thursday 28 May 2009

It's confirmed: the current airport Mayotte will have a new terminal in 2011. And a long track in 2015!

The 1930 meters of its current track is insufficient to allow jumbo jets to take off to the mainland - including Paris - with full fuel. Kenya Airways and Corsairfly have chosen to introduce flights Mayotte / Paris with a stopover, respectively in Nairobi (over 5 hours of call!) And Tananarive, round Paris / Mayotte is only with direct Corsairfly. Ditto for Air Austral raising by Reunion passengers from Paris to Mayotte or vice versa, thus lengthening the journey of 1 500 miles in each direction.
The lengthening of the runway is presented by many political and economic actors of Mayotte as the inevitable solution to take off ... tourism on the French island.
