Metro / DOM: reduced air fares during the most responsible

Tuesday 27 January 2009

Jégo Yves, Secretary of State for Overseas Territories, has made the acceleration of the opening air (as well as maritime and digital) of the territories one of 5 major objectives of its strategy to grow overseas. In 2007 (latest figures available), 3.3 million people traveled on the routes metropolis - departments and overseas regions.

One goal is to develop and less expensive air service. For several months, the Secretary of State was negotiating with airlines already serving overseas, to get them reduced rates in the most responsible of the year. Negotiations that have resulted in the signing of the charters of voluntary par 3 of the 4 companies serving overseas departments: Air France, Corsair and Air Caraïbes, Air Austral has not accepted the terms of the charter . The destinations: Martinique, Guadeloupe, Reunion and French Guiana. Mayotte is not, as yet, directly affected by these charters.

The provisions of the charter include:

     * A larger quota of seats at low prices between June 15 and September 15, equivalent to 15% of the total number of seats offered for sale in economy class during this period, approximately 150 000 seats in total for the 4 destinations
     * A social tariff to the bereaved families and the most disadvantaged could not go long in their home community
     * Franchise luggage and charging their excess
     * Payment facilities adapted.

This is a commitment from 3 airlines with no real precedent and the first stage of discussions that will expand to other communities overseas.

In a few weeks, Yves Jégo reveal the second stage of the device, namely the provision of over 300 000 seats reserved for residents from overseas and delivered, subject to resources at rates far below those for the general public.
