Ramadan begins in Mayotte: an important
Tuesday 02 September 2008
This year Ramadan starts on September 2. This is an important moment for Mayotte, the island consisting of 98% of Muslims many of whom are practitioners.
The stomach is commonly practiced, from sunrise to sunset. The government, banks, shops ... are beginning to live by this event, closing their doors early for a month (around 15:30), often taking the day continues. In the evening, after sunset, each family is often a feast. The end of Ramadan is a huge celebration, a sort of a Christmas where everyone benefits from gifts. Eg the opportunity to completely renew its bedding. The shops are robbed!
