The "Tourism" of the General Council from 1.7 million in 2007 to 6 million for 2008

Mayotte welcomed 44 000 tourists in 2007, against 31 000 in 2006. A very strong growth. Which should be added to double the number of cruise passengers between 2006 and 2007 (from 8000 to 16 000): the latter, coming for a day trip and do not therefore passing night Mayotte, are recorded separately.
Tourists who come to Mayotte are french vast majority (87%). Leisure 38% and business 31%.
To attract 120 to 150 000 tourists in 2020, placing on its Mayotte lagoon and nature tourism. But it does not play the card of mass tourism.
To achieve these ambitious goals, Mayotte will improve its range of accommodations and restaurants, moorings and pontoons create, develop some beaches, enhance the existing heritage (museums), create an environmental dimension focuses on the lagoon, the increase Youth Outreach Mahorais the tourism trade, and assist and support the tourism projects.
