At Mayotte, right now it is winter, the austral winter. And every year, from July to October, in the lagoon or on the edge of it, you can see this magical show that the comings and goings and jumps whales.

Indeed, remained throughout the summer in the cold waters of Antarctica to feed on tiny shrimp (krill), they then migrate to the warm waters of the tropics.
The whales that we see on Mayotte are humpback whales, which measure up to 15 m long and can weigh up to 40 tonnes. The lagoon Mahorais is not only the place of their frolics is also there in this sort of inland sea, they come in a calm and safe from predators - the shark birth of their small . A manner of speaking: a Baleineau easily reached a ton at birth!

Note: end of August 2006 and for the first time in memory responsible for water activities, three blue whales were seen in the lagoon. A whale endangered as very driven.
