Visit the Indian Ocean from Mayotte? Not easy and especially expensive !
Monday 05 January 2009
Mayotte, French tropical island with many natural and cultural charms, is not, contrary to what one might think, a good starting point for the rest of the Indian Ocean. The flight is direct and often not always expensive. And even more expensive than a flight Europe> Indian Ocean!
Mayotte> Seychelles: it must pass by Reunion. Cheapest fare: around 800 euros.
Mayotte> Mauritius: it must pass by Reunion. Cheapest fare: around 800 euros.
Mayotte> South Africa (Cape Town or Johannesburg): it must pass by Reunion (Air Austral) by Kenya (Nairobi) and Kenya Airways. Cheapest fare: around 1000 euros.
However, direct flights serving Madagascar, nearby large island of Mayotte: Air Austral and dessert flight Majunga (cheapest price: 248 euros) and Nosy Be (cheapest price: 292 euros), but you go by Reunion to go to Antananarivo and Tamatave. From 2 April 2009, Air Madagascar Diego Suarez serves and Majang from Mayotte, but through this city before landing in Antananarivo. Except for some specific days where Air Madagascar provides a direct Mayotte / Antananarivo (cheapest price: 286 euros).
