Friday 18 April 2008

"The year 2007 was an exceptional year." Said Petra Friedmann, CEO Opodo France, presenting the results of its annual survey of tourism, made last January with the research firm and consultancy Raffour Interactive.

The whole sector is not something to be enthusiastic. The study highlights a decline in overall rates of withdrawal in 2007 of 1 point over the previous year. 60% of the population over 15 years has directed a stay (excluding business trips, family gatherings and school trips) in 2007, against 61% in 2006 and 64% in 2003. Guy Raffour, CEO of Interactive Raffour firm explained by a decrease in purchasing power.

However later e-tourism, the picture is very different. As the population gets used to the use of the Web, the proportion of French preparing their travel online continues to grow. 21% of the French parties were on a trip through the Web in 2003. They are now 44% for the year 2007. For only those Internet users left in the year, this rate rises to 62%.

The French are more likely to buy their holiday online all products: 7.8 million in 2007 according to projections from research firm, 25% of holidaymakers and counted more than 36% among people who traveled. This is three times more than in 2003.
