Benin: Coastal erosion inquiétante weakened by shaving dunes
Wednesday 28 January 2009
Today the situation along the Benin coast is frightening. The continual loss of sand (beaches and dunes) on the coast has weakened its coast. This is the product of marginal shave dunes and uncontrolled construction on coastal inconstructibles yet.
Thus the range of Palm Beach, in Cotonou, the name of a hotel complex captured by the sea, would have become lower than the level of the sea here, as in several areas along the coast of Benin, some buildings were built on the band of less than 300 meters along the coast. For those on the tape of the 100 meters from the shoreline, many have been swallowed by the sea that moves gradually absorbing daily cm of soil.
